Pocket v2 vs Heltec T114
Which one is right for you? The WisMesh Pocket v2 is the easier choice — it comes fully assembled with GPS built in and works immediately out of the box. The Heltec T114 uses the more capable nRF52840 chipset (better sleep power, more stable firmware) but requires attaching a GPS antenna externally, which doesn't fit inside its standard 3D-printed case. If you're buying for a family member who just needs it to work, start with the Pocket v2.
Prepper Use Case
SCENARIO
Cell infrastructure is down after a regional disaster. You've pre-positioned a WisMesh Pocket v2 in your spouse's go-bag and one in your teenager's backpack. They don't know anything about radios — they just know to turn it on. Within seconds it's on the mesh, broadcasting GPS coordinates and accepting text messages via Bluetooth to their phone. You coordinate rendezvous points and track their location on your Meshtastic map, all without a single tower or internet connection.
